Observation Checklists - Adding more interactive functionality to each item to assist assessors in providing context
PlannedWe are a short course provider with for example 10 students in a 5 hour class.
In our paper-based assessments, we have checkboxes that assessors marks against an observation item to help give context to the assessment (which ASQA requires). That is, so it's not a 'tick & flick'. However given the short course nature of these courses, we need to make this as quick and simple as possible for the assessors (i.e. written feedback for each observation item for each student is too time consuming).
For example, if the observation item is 'donning PPE' - we then have a list of PPE (personal protective equipment) that the student could possibly put on (e.g. goggles, hi-vis vest, hard hat etc). The assessor simply ticks that relevant ones used in the assessment. This saves the assessor time in writing comments for each student or taking copious amounts of photos and uploading against each student.
We request this sort of functionality (e.g. checkboxes) be added as functionality to the items in the observation checklist assessment type.

Hi Kathryn
Thanks for your suggestion! The design team have informed me that they already had this in the pipeline and had created a design for it!
As completing the designs is a very early process in a feature's lifecycle, I'm unable to provide a timeline at this stage. Timeframes will fully depend on our Development and Quality Assurance teams' priorities, however we do hope to add this feature soon.
Kind Regards

Hello - just wondering if there is anything further update on this? We are having to use editable PDF's that we upload to aXcelerate to get around the fact the observation checklist is not 'interactive' (i.e. no checkboxes that an assessor can mark to give context to an assessment (noting this is particularly relevant when it is a short course class with 12 students)).
Hopefully adding a checkbox feature to observation checklist items is not too difficult and could be done soon?

Hi Mark, is there going to be addition of multiple responses and checkboxes in the Observation Assessment Type? Otherwise, can you make the other assessment types "assessor only" (e.g student can't fill in but assessor can, just like the obs checklist) and have them available in the Assessor App. Then we can use tables and checkboxes to create observations.
